This route is 22 km long and leads towards the heart of the St Francis' Way: the Holy Valley of Rieti and Umbria. The route includes stretches of tarmac road but the majority are secondary roads.
It takes you to the cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta and the medieval town of Rieti. It begins with a downhill stretch towards the valley and along the route, taking a detour of about 1 km, you can reach the locality of Ornaro Basso, where you can stop off and have something to eat and drink. The trail leads you into the green valley of Rieti, located between the mountains. Going past the signpost indicating 100 km from Rome, this is the time to celebrate, as the final destination is getting closer, step by step. You will soon enter the old town centre with its rich heritage of churches, artistic monuments and museums.

Suggestions
After the long walk, a relaxing stroll through the old town centre of Rieti and perhaps an ice cream will help you regain your strength. The underground itinerary through Rieti is worth seeing. We recommend that you have the maps of the trail with you. Simplified maps can be downloaded by clicking on the online map. Remember to always have a small supply of food with you (fruit, dried fruit, chocolate, energy bars, something energy-giving in general).
